Limited storage of the sensor node is one of the main causes of packet drop in the Wireless sensor network (WSN). Frequent link disconnection is also another cause of packet drop. Due to lack of continues end-to-end connection; neighbouring nodes might not be able to connect with one another. Hence, communication may be setup with the help of store and forward approach between the source and destination. In that case, the sensor node may not be capable of storing a chunk of data since the buffer is available in a small amount. In order to store the data packets in the buffer when the link is down, an effective buffer management scheme is highly needed to keep the data packets for a long time until the link is re-established. This paper proposes a new buffer management scheme called Packet Priority Heterogonous Queue (PPHQ), which based on prioritizing and classifying the packets into different categories to minimize the loss of important packets. Unlike the existing Multi-layer WSN, that treats the data packets differently; we considered the data packets such as; temperature, humidity, and pressure to be same. However, the classification of different packet types is based on the sensor's information value. We completely divide the whole buffer into different queues, and thus the newly arrived packets are inserted in their corresponding queue. The buffer will then prioritize and schedule on which packet to be stored or transmit first when the buffer is overloaded. Our result exhibits that PPHQ scheme indeed provides minimum packet drop as well as maximum throughput compared to existing Multi-layer WSN buffer management schemes.

The loss recovery techniques ARQ and error correction coding mechanisms have some drawbacks. By combining these proactive and reactive techniques, we can design a hybrid loss recovery technique which will achieve better performance. In this paper, a hybrid loss recovery technique is proposed for multipath routing. The sender initiates encoding process using partial network coding and then forwards the coded data to intermediate nodes for re-encoding. After reprocessing the encoding packets, the intermediate nodes forward those packets to the receiver for decoding operations without the need of all encoded packets. Suppose if the proactive mechanism fails to help all receivers to recover the lost packet reactive mechanism is used that consisting of Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) protocol, which use, retransmission mechanism for those packets are lost by sending ACK from the receiver to sender. By simulation results, we show that the proposed protocol reduces the packet drop and delay with improved throughput.Keywords-ARQ protocol, proactive and reactive mechanisms.

Congestion in wireless sensor networks usually occurs when the traffic is heavy. Buffer management determines how to drop or buffer the arriving packet when congestion occurs. This paper presents a buffer management algorithm for wireless sensor nodes. The algorithm has four advantages: First, this algorithm is based on spatial correlation of sensing data, it can drop the most redundant data instead of useful data; Second, the algorithm ensure fairness among the stream on the view of spatiality; Third, the algorithm is an active buffer management algorithm, it can drop packet early in order to buffer burst application data; Finally, the algorithm only needs one floating-point calculation, it is fit for the sensor nodes.
