Effect of Phosphorus and Boron Levels on Growth and Yield of Mustard (Brassica juncea L.)

Abstract: A field experiment was conducted during Rabi 2021 at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, SHUATS, Prayagraj (U.P), India. This study aims to determine the effect of phosphorus and boron levels on growth and yield of mustard (Brassica juncea L.). The soil of experimental plot was sandy loam in texture, nearly neutral in soil reaction (pH 7.2). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design consisting of nine treatments with three replications. The treatments comprising of different levels of ph… Show more

“…The same finding was observed in the case of P and K. With increasing levels of P, the plant height increased significantly. These results corroborate the findings of Kumar and Yadav (2007) and Cheema et al (2012). Dry matter accumulation at different growth stages varied significantly due to sowing method (Table 1).…”

“…The increase in dry matter accumulation was found to be significant with different levels of P and K might be due to higher plant height. Similar types of results also indicated by Kumar and Yadav (2007), , (Chhaba et al, 2017) in mustard. The crop growth rates estimated during the period of 20-40 and 40-60 days interval during the experiment, were statistically analyzed and is presented in Table 2.…”

“…The beneficial effect of Sulphur application probably induced the synthesis of growth promoting substances which would stimulate the root growth, cell elongation and protein synthesis resulting in better plant growth which in turn increases the stover yield. These results corroborated with findings of Chauhan and Tikoo (2002) [4] ; Dayananda and Meena (2002) [5] ; Kumar and Yadav (2007) [10] .…”

“…Application of Sulphur significantly increased the Nitrogen uptake, stimulated the photosynthetic activity and synthesis of chloroplast protein which might have resulted in higher dry matter production. Similarly, better Sulphur nutrition to plants resulted in more height and number of branches and other growth parameters, which resulted in higher dry matter production (Harendra Kumar and Yadav, 2007) [8] . These results are in line with findings of Baviskar et al, (2005) [2] , Venkatesh et al, (2002) [19] and Babhulkar et al, (2000) [1] ~ 1807 ~…”
