Effect of Pinching on Growth and Quality Flower Production of Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum indicum L.)

Abstract: A field study conceded to assess the effect of pinching on growth and quality flowers yield of chrysanthemum at Horticulture Research Centre (HRC), Gazipur, Bangladesh. The research was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with six treatments and three replications. The treatment combinations were as T0- No pinching, T1- Once 40 days, T2- Once 50 days, T3- Once 60 days, T4- Twice 40 and 50 days and T5- Thrice 40, 50 and 60 days. It was observed that the highest plant height 60cm in no pinching (… Show more

“…Regarding the effect of the last factor plant number per pot, it showed a significant increase in number of days for flower bud emergence 212.25 recorded for 4 plants/pot, in comparison with 3 plants/pot recorded 209.25 days. However, significant results of growth index 20821 cm 3 , flower length 47.83 cm, and flower diameter 6.40 cm were recorded when using 2 plants/pot compared to 4 plants/pot giving lesser values 15950 cm 3 , 41.17 cm, and 5.60 cm, respectively. In addition, a maximum flower number 8.25 was found in 4 plants/pot compared to 2 plants/pot recorded 5.64 flowers.…”

“…In our study, no cultural treatments such as pinching and different planting spacing were applied to increase yield. However, it has been reported that widening the planting spacing ( Armitage, 1987 ) and pinching increase flower yield ( Wien, 2016 ; Ehsanullah et al, 2021 ) and delay flowering ( Cheema, 2018 ) in some annual ornamentals. For example, Wien (2016) reported that widening planting spacing and pinching positively affected yield in Helianthus annuus ; Ullah et al (2019) reported that especially double pinching improved many parameters related to yield and plant quality in Zinnia elegans ; Singh, Singh & Ahirwar (2018) reported that wide plant spacing (60 cm × 60 cm) increased flower yield per plant in Tagates erecta .…”

“…Tanaman tanpa pemangkasan akan terus bertambah panjang. Hal tersebut disebabkan dominasi bagian pucuk yang masih melanjutkan pertumbuhan (Ehsanullah et al, 2021;Kusuma dan Sitawati, 2018). Pemangkasan tunas apikal dilakukan untuk mengurangi/meniadakan dominasi apikal sehingga akan merangsang pembentukan tunastunas baru pada bagian lateral.…”
