Effect of Plant Derived Smoke on Germination and Post Germination Expression of Wheat (<i>Triticum aestivum</i> L.)

Abstract: Smoke produced from burning of plant material elicits a striking increase in seed germination in various plant species. In present work, effect of plant derived smoke exposure on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seeds germination and post germination response has been studied in laboratory. Plant derived smoke was generated by burning of plant material (leaf, straws etc.) in a special designed furnace. Non-imbibed and imbibed seeds of wheat were exposed to plant derived smoke for 1 hr time duration. Best results w… Show more

“…Additionally to this some other researchers reported tissue culture technique as potent way for better propagation of various plants on large scale [132][133][134][135][136]. There are certain growth enhancers are also being applied exogenously for improvement in germination and post germination potential of wheat [137].…”

“…IAA, IBA, NAA, at varying concentrations must be optimized for further conservation and large scale propagation. Additionally, to this indirect method like callogenesis and somatic embryogenesis can be applied for production of plantlets helping in establishment of large scale plant nurseries [32][33][34]. Ali et al [35] established a protocol for synthetic seed production by using artificial coating material (sodium alginate) and complexing agent (calcium chloride).…”
