“…where C-CP is C-phycocyanin content in mg/g, P: is pressure in the bar, and S: is the solvent type (Table 4). Our results showed that after each disruption, the amounts of recovered C-PC from A. maxima increased in direct correlation with a higher operating pressure, which is confirmed by what is described by Halim, et al [34]. However, we also observed that the increase from 1400 to 1600 bar caused a decrease in the C-PC content of A. maxima.…”

“…Additionally, it should be investigated whether a natural autolysis of microalgae cells induced for example by starvation could induce the same effects as PEFtreatment especially on lipid extraction. Note that in a recent published study on the effect of PEF-treatment on Chlorella vulgaris, very different results were reported since time course measurements of conductivity after PEF-treatment showed stabilization after about 1h(Carullo et al, 2018). The longer pulses used in this study, which are less prone to induce intracellular damages might partially explain the observed differences.…”

“…The treatment improves extraction selectively, and thus the extracts obtained by PEF-assisted method are purer than those obtained using other methodologies that consist of the total destruction of cells such as bead-beating, crushing, ultrasound, or high pressure homogenization producing release of impurities. The energy consumption of PEF is much lower than in those conventional techniques (Carullo et al, 2018;de Boer, Moheimani, Borowitzka, & Bahri, 2012). In addition, regarding nonpolar compounds recovery from microalgae, which constitute a promising source of these metabolites, PEF treatment followed by autolysis induction during aqueous incubation permits to substitute the injurious organic chemicals by more safe and ecofriendly solvents (Martínez, Gojkovic et al, 2019c).…”
