Effect of Schiff Bases Containing Pyridyl Group as Corrosion Inhibitors for Low Carbon Steel in 0.1 M HCl

Abstract: The inhibiting effect of four newly synthesised Schiff bases containing pyridyl group was investigated on the corrosion of low carbon steel in 0.1 M hydrochloric acid solution under various conditions by potentiodynamic polarisation method and impedance measurements. The Schiff bases used were 2-All the Schiff bases inhibit corrosion of low carbon steel and their inhibition efficiencies increase with decrease in temperature and increase in concentration. The difference in protection actions of the inhibitors c… Show more

“…The adsorption process of the inhibitors are influenced by the chemical structure of the organic compounds, the nature and surface charge of the metal, the distribution of charge in the molecule, and the type of aggressive media. To look at the effect of temperature on the corrosion reaction of mild steel in the presence of the sulfonamides as inhibitor, Arrhenius equation was used [119]. The values of E a for the inhibited corrosion reaction of mild steel have been calculated and recorded in Table XII from the Arrhenius plots (not shown in this article).…”

“…These values ranged from -38.2481 to 52.3433 kJ/mol, indicating that the adsorption of ethanol extract of vernonia amygdalina on mild steel surface is exothermic [17][18][19]. Also, since the reactions were carried out under constant pressure, the heat adsorbed is also equal to the enthalpy change [22][23]. C/θ = 1/k + C (10) which can also be written as follows, log(C/θ) = logC-logK (11) By plotting values of log(C/θ) versus logC, linear plots were generated (Fig.…”
