Effect of Shin’iseihaito (Xinyiqingfeitang) on Acute Streptococcus pneumoniae Murine Sinusitis via Macrophage Activation

Abstract: Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) causes sinusitis. The general treatment of S. pneumonia sinusitis is by using antibiotics; however, one of their serious problems is the attenuation of their effect. Shin'iseihaito (Xinyiqingfeitang), a formula of Japanese traditional Kampo medicine, has been used for the treatment of sinusitis in Japan. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of Shin'iseihaito against S. pneumoniae-caused sinusitis in mice. Oral administration of Shin'iseihaito extract (SSHT) decre… Show more

“…Mice were purchased from Japan SLC (Hamamatsu, Japan). The ability of the colonized effect of MRSA in mice after nasal inoculation was assessed using a previous procedure [ 15 ]. In brief, bacteria were harvested after 16 h of growth on TSAII sheep blood agar, and were mixed in 1 mL of phosphate buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.2, 0.15 M), then centrifuged at 2000× g for 2 min.…”

“…The effect of SSHT on the S. pyogenes -induced murine sinusitis model after nasal inoculation was assessed using the following procedure [ 15 ]. S. pyogenes were cultured for 16 h on TSAII sheep blood agar, harvested, and mixed in 1 mL of PBS followed by centrifugation at 2,000 ×g for 2 min.…”
