Effect of UV radiation aging on creepage discharge characteristics of high temperature vulcanized silicon rubber at high altitude

Abstract: The physicochemical properties and creepage discharge characteristics of aged high temperature Vulcanized (HTV) silicone rubber materials were investigated by ultraviolet radiation (UV) aging method in this study. The experimental results show that as the aging time increases, the creepage discharge flashover voltage increases first and then decreases. But the aging time has little effect on the creepage discharge inception voltage. With the aging time prolonged, the discharge endurance time of HTV silicone ru… Show more

“…It can be seen that with the increment of the modification time, the water contact angle declines consistently, and the hydrophobicity is changed to hydrophilicity after 180 s plasma treatment. This is attributed to the increased concentration of hydroxyl -OH [23]. However, after 30 d aging, the hydrophobicity is recovered due to the decreased content of hydroxyl -OH.…”

“…Figure 1 b shows that the hardness and crosslink density of the samples increase from 67° and 5.88 × 10 −5 mol g −1 to 90° and 4.69 × 10 −4 mol g −1 , respectively, after hot-air ageing at 240 °C. The results can be attributed to the enhanced crosslink density of the MPVQ rubber after thermal ageing 24 27 .…”

“…Youn and Huh (2002) found that the water contact angle of the SR decreased from 108° to 98° under aging for 5000 h at ultraviolet irradiation conditions, and the hydrophobicity decreased to a certain extent. Related research discovered that as UV aging time increased, the porosity of the SR surface increased, but their growth rate decreased, the SiO 2 filler on the surface was lost, and the C–H bond in CH 3 and the CH 3 bond in Si–CH 3 increased (Jin et al., 2019; Lin et al., 2019).…”
