Effect of Zamzam Water on the Microhardness of Initial Carious Lesion of Permanent Teeth Enamel (An in vitro study)

Abstract: Chemical tests concluded that Zamzam water is absolutely good and suitable for drinking as it has very high percentage of sodium, calcium, magnesium, and many other minerals. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of Zamzam water on the microhardness of permanent teeth enamel.Teeth samples (n= 30) with artificially initiated carious lesions were divided randomly into three groups, study group treated with Zamzam water (n= 10), control positive treated with sodium fluoride (n=10), and control negative… Show more

“…39 Al-Rawi et al, (2009) pointed to the fact that 0.05% NaF was superior in its effect regarding remineralization compared to Zamzam Water and this is confirming the results in this study. 23 Zamzam Water group as a second priority that came after Varnish in terms of remineralization to prevent enamel erosion in primary dentition and this is evident in the mean values which were remarkable since Zamzam water is multi-element water40. Calcium, phosphate and fluoride are components of interest.…”

“…22 When it comes to remineralizing initial carious lesions in permanent teeth, Zamzam water is just as effective as sodium fluoride 0.05%. 23,24 Consequently, dental enamel's microhardness was raised. 25 Zamzam Water has a high content of bicarbonates, which is an essential element in saliva that helps to balance out the pH of the mouth.…”

“…Dental caries is one of the most common oral health issues, resulting in tooth demineralization caused by organic acids produced by biofilm bacteria from the metabolism of dietary fermentable carbohydrates, primarily sugars. The increase of resistance of teeth to acid attack can be achieved by fluoride that gives hardness and durability to the tooth enamel and protect against caries (1) .…”
