Effect of zinc on growth, yield, nutrient uptake and quality of groundnut: A review

Abstract: Among the nine oilseed crops, groundnut is an important edible oilseed crop of our country and edible oil economy primarily depends upon groundnut production. Zn deficiency in Indian soils is likely to increase from 49 to 63% by 2025. India is leading in groundnut acreage but behind the China in production due to less productivity. Apart from rain dependent cultivation and mineral nutrition play a vital role in groundnut productivity. Among the nutrients, Zn deficiency cause yield loss to the maximum of 40% in… Show more

“…Further, the higher number of nodules/plants observed with the application of zinc (15 kg/ha) might be due to its role in enzymes activities as they are essential constituents of N2 fixing enzymes complex "nitrogenase" which are responsible for increase in leghemoglobin which ultimately increase nodulation and N-fixation. The results were in accordance with the findings of Radhika and Meena [7].…”

“…Further, increase in haulm yield with the application of zinc involved in activation of various enzymes and increased basic metabolic rate in plants, facilitated the synthesis of nucleic acids and hormones, which in turn enhanced the haulm yield due to greater availability of nutrients and photosynthates. Observations were consistent with those of Radhika and Meena [7].…”

“…While in terms of adoption GWR60%, the plants tend to reduce some activities, including reducing the transpiration and closing stomata as a protection methodology from water stress. Under these circumstances the root was the controller of the activity, thus by applying Zngd many bene ts including improving nutrients uptake are re ected in the enhancements of crop yield, similar ndings are obtained by 40,41 .…”

“…These may be related to the involvement of Zn and Mo in enzyme activities as they are crucial components of the "nitrogenase" N2 fixing enzymes complex that cause an increase in leg hemoglobin, which in turn increases nodulation and N-fixation [10]. According to Bagal [11],…”
