Effective removal of Pb(II) and Cu(II) from aqueous solutions using a hybrid composite of fuller's earth, aluminum silicate and chitosan

Abstract: In this study, a highly effective hybrid adsorbent composite based on low-cost fuller’s earth (FE), aluminum silicate (AS) and chitosan (CS) was prepared using a facile method. The prepared composite was applied to adsorb lead (Pb2+) and copper (Cu2+) ions from aqueous solutions. Several analyses such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the composite. The adsorption efficiency of the prepared composite was i… Show more

“…Adsorption is one of HMs treatment are widely applied because its low cost, high efficiency and environmentally friendly [4][5][6][7]. The surface phenomenon that mainly includes chemical, physical, and ion exchange are mechanism of adsorption [8][9]. Adsorption isotherms and kinetic models are the most convenient and widely used due to its provide important information of the adsorption properties such as maximum adsorption capacity and adsorption rate coefficient which its corespond to the performance of the adsorbents [10][11][12].…”

“…Bahadur et al (2022) assessed that impact of fuller earth, rock phosphate, and biochar on remediation of Cu, Zn, Fe, and Cd in heavy and less polluted soil and reduce their uptake by maize plant. Kandil et al (2023) studied the efficacy of hybrid composite of fuller's earth, aluminium silicate and chitosan on removal of Pb(II) and Cu(II) in aqueous solution. The main objective of the present study was to assess the efficacy of press mud compost and fuller earth alone and mixed at 0.5 and 1 % on the stabilization of Pb and Cd in Sharafi Goth and Malir polluted soils, and reduce the uptake of Pb and Cd in the root and shoot by sorghum plant.…”
