Abstract:The metabolic disorder known as diabetes mellitus (DM) has several different causes, distinguished by recurring hyperglycemia due to inadequate insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. T-lymphocytes target such cells for destruction, which include beta cells. Transplants of the pancreas, islets of Langerhans, and individual beta cells are all effective treatments for DM.
