Effective Voice Frame Shrinking Method to Enhance VoIP Bandwidth Exploitation

Abstract: The traditional telecommunication system (e.g. landline telephone system) are increasingly being replaced by Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems because of the very low or free rate. However, one of the main handicaps of VoIP adoption is the inefficient bandwidth exploitation issue. A key approach to handle this issue is packet multiplexing. This article proposes a new VoIP packet payload compression method that enhances bandwidth exploitation over Internet Telephony Transport Protocol (ITTP) protocol.… Show more

“…The embrace of VoIP technology is exponentially expanding due to different favorable benefits, one of which is the exceptionally modest rate, which is considered the main benefit (Abualhaj et al, 2016;Affonso et al,2018). Despite that, bandwidth (BW) exploitation and quality are two key concerns that make trouble for VoIP technology's embrace (Olariu et al, 2016;Shambour et al;. This research interest is the BW exploitation of VoIP technology.…”

“…The preamble compression methodology has effectively compacted the 40 octet RUI VoIP packet preamble to just 2 octets. Thus, the preamble compression methodology profoundly decreases preamble overhead, also enhancing BW utilization (Shambour et al, 2020;Hussein et al, 2020;Seytnazarov et al, 2018;Maqhat et al, 2014). Aside from these two methodologies, a novel protocol, named Internet Telephony Transport Protocol (ITTP), has been created to convey IP voice calls (Abualhaj et al, 2019b;Abu-Alhaj et al, 2012).…”

“…Second, the packet aggregation approach works by collecting packets to the same addressee and merging them in a header in place of a header to every packet. The more the merged packets are, the higher the preserved bandwidth is (Hussein et al, 2020;Shambour et al, 2020;Seytnazarov and Kim, 2018). Figure 1 presents the packet aggregation approach.…”
