Effectiveness of Counselor Trainees: A Comparison of Perceived Parental Behavior

Abstract

A counselor's effectiveness or ineffectiveness has been theA number subject of many investigations during the past decade. of investigators have used personality tests in an attempt to differentiate between effective and less effective counseling trainees (Myrick, Kelly C Wittmer 1972; Patterson 1967; Schroeder & Dowse 1968; Wasson 1965). However, most of these investigators have concluded that personality tests rarely produce adequate differentiation to warrant their use in screening candidates for counselor education programs. Another measure used by researchers attempting to differentiate between effective and ineffective counselor candidates has been the Strong Vocational Interest Blank. Foley and Proff (1965)found that counselor students enrolled in counselor education exhibited their highest interest in the social service block of occupations.
