The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the “Don’t Touch My Body” Training Program (DTMB-TP) and raise awareness of child sexual abuse (CSA) among future pre-school teachers enrolled in a Turkish university. The study design was quasi-experimental and employed two groups (intervention and control) with pre-test/post-test. Convenience sampling method was used. The study sample included participants ( n = 218) enrolled in an academic degree program to become pre-school teachers. Data were collected using a descriptive information form and the “DTMB” awareness form. The data collection forms were administered to the study and control groups at baseline (pre-test) and 4 weeks after the intervention. The intervention applied to the experimental group was conducted face-to-face in one class hour (40 minutes) under the leadership of a nurse. There was a statistically significant increase in the knowledge of the children’s private body parts, good/bad touch, reactions to strangers, and the family security password in the intervention group in the post-test ( p < .05). In the post-test, no increase was observed in the control group’s CSA knowledge level score ( p > .05). The DTMB-TP effectively increased the awareness of preventing sexual abuse in participants. This study concluded that education effectively raised awareness to prevent CSA and provided basic data for larger-scale studies.

Çocuk cinsel istismarında temel hedef istismarın önlenmesidir. Bu makalede okul öncesi çocuklarda cinsel istismarı önlemeye yönelik yaratıcı dramaya temellendirilerek hazırlanan "Bedenim Benim Özelimdir Eğitim Programının" uygulama planı örneği verilmiştir. Son yıllarda aktif olarak kullanılmaya başlanan yaratıcı dramanın özellikle okul öncesi dönem çocuklarında yaratıcı düşünmeyi teşvik etme, öğrenilenlerin kalıcı olmasını sağlama, dil ve iletişim becerileri kazanma, kendine güven duyma, karar verme becerileri kazanma ve bildiklerini hayata geçirebilme gibi birçok yararının olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu makalenin çocuk cinsel istismarını önlemek için bu alanda çalışan tüm eğitim, sağlık çalışanları ve ebeveynlere önemli bir kaynak olacağı düşünülmektedir.

Knowledge, attitudes, views and experiences of fathers toward child sexual abuse: A mixed‐method study

This study aims to evaluate (i) the knowledge levels and attitudes of fathers toward child sexual abuse (CSA), (ii) factors influencing their knowledge and attitudes, and (iii) views on the CSA, using a sequential exploratory mixed method and a cross‐sectional and phenomenological approach. The quantitative stage was conducted with the fathers of 258 children in a public primary school in Turkey between June and August 2021. In the qualitative stage, data were collected through face‐to‐face interviews with 14 fathers between October 2021 and January 2022 using a sociodemographic form, the CSA Knowledge/Attitude Scale (CSAKAS) and a semi‐structured interview form. The mean total CSAKAS score was 129.51 ± 20.23. CSAKAS total scores were found to be higher in those with bachelor's or higher education degrees (F = 3.374, p = 0.019), background knowledge of CSA (t = 4.291, p < 0.001), receiving information about protecting their child from sexual abuse (t = 3.633, p < 0.001) and having a higher level of communication with their children (r = 0.422, p < 0.001). In the analysis of the qualitative data, three main themes emerged: the emotional conceptualization of CSA, potential drivers of CSA and protectors against CSA. According to the results, fathers do not take responsibility for CSA, so it is recommended to plan educational programs.
