Effects of an amylopectin and chromium complex on the anabolic response to a suboptimal dose of whey protein

Abstract: BackgroundPrevious research has demonstrated the permissive effect of insulin on muscle protein kinetics, and the enhanced insulin sensitizing effect of chromium. In the presence of adequate whole protein and/or essential amino acids (EAA), insulin has a stimulatory effect on muscle protein synthesis, whereas in conditions of lower blood EAA concentrations, insulin has an inhibitory effect on protein breakdown. In this study, we determined the effect of an amylopectin/chromium (ACr) complex on changes in plasm… Show more

“…Micronutrients such as A and Cr are efficient in modulating glucose and insulin metabolism (34,(37)(38)(39), as observed in the current study. Indeed, the combination of A and Cr as CrPic elevated blood glucose level while A combined with Cr as CrHis reduced it.…”

“…Group 5 rats received the same amount of elemental Cr but this Cr was half met by CrPic and the other half by CrHis. A and Cr doses were determined on the basis of the studies done by Ziegenfuss et al (34) and Sahin et al (35). Ingredients and nutrient compositions of the diet are shown in Table 1.…”

“…W 2017 r. opublikowano wyniki pilotażowego badania Ziegenfussa i wsp. [44], w którym analizowano wpływ chromu zastosowanego w postaci kompleksu z amylopektyną na zmiany osoczowego stężenia egzogennych aminokwasów i ułamkową szybkość syntezy białka mięśni (fractional protein synthesis rates -FSR) ocenianą w bioptatach mięśniowych. Autorzy wykazali zwiększenie FSR w grupie suplementowanej.…”

“…The rate of exogenous glucose oxidation appears limited by intestinal glucose absorption [12,61]. Glucose is absorbed from the intestine via sodium dependent glucose transporters (SGLT1) [62]. It has been speculated that glucose transport via SGLT1 may become saturated when more than 1-1.1 g•min −1 glucose and glucose polymers are ingested.…”

“…Furthermore, several micronutrients that are present primarily in the yolk, such as vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, zinc, selenium and cholesterol, are potential candidates that may be responsible for the greater anabolic response to feeding [48,61]. In addition, the coingestion of an amylopectin/chromium complex has recently been shown to augment the post-exercise MPS response to the ingestion of a suboptimal amount of protein [62]. However, it should be noted some nutrients may potentially impair MPS when ingested in large amounts in excess of what is typically consumed in the diet.…”
