Effects of Bambusatulda on the proliferation of human stem cells

Abstract: To date, the effects of Bambusa tulda on stem cells have not been thoroughly assessed. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of Bambusa tulda extract on the morphology and proliferative potential of human mesenchymal stem cells derived from the gingiva. The stem cells were cultured in a growth medium in the presence of Bambusa tulda methanolic extract (BBT) at concentrations ranging from 0.001 to 1%. Evaluation of cell morphology and cellular proliferation as well as immunofluorescent assays for coll… Show more

“… 33 However, despite their non-specificity, the extracts of plants such as medicinal herbs induce the differentiation of stem cells toward specific lineages. So far, osteogenic, 34 chondrogenic, 35 neurogenic 36 differentiation of stem cells, and stimulation of stem cell proliferation 35 , 37 by various herbal extracts have been proven. In our recent work, in vitro differentiation of P19 EC cells into insulin-producing cells by C. intybus L. leaf extract was reported.…”

“…The use of stem cells in bony defects has been shown to improve bone regeneration in mandibular defects [ 15 ]. Herbal extracts have been applied for the enhancement of functionality of stem cells [ 16 , 17 ]. In a previous study, Bambusa tulda extract increased the cell proliferation and collagen I expression of stem cells at early time points [ 17 ].…”
