This simulation study deals with benzene adsorption in the metal azolate framework, MAF-6, and on the inversion of the adsorption behavior in presence of aliphatic alcohols with varying chain length. To this aim, a new set of Lennard-Jones interacting parameters for the MAF structure with benzene, methanol, ethanol, and 1-propanol is developed in order to reproduce experimental adsorption. Pure component and binary benzene/alcohol mixtures are analyzed using Monte Carlo simulations. The distribution of the molecules inside the structure is studied in terms of radial distribution functions, calculated to understand the adsorption mechanisms. Adsorption selectivity provides a better understanding of the effect exerted by the adsorption of alcohols. It is found that the adsorption of benzene from benzene/methanol mixtures is similar to its pure component isotherm. However, for increasing length of the aliphatic chain of the alcohols the adsorption behavior is reversed preventing benzene to be adsorbed. The effect of open metal sites is discarded as main responsible for the preferential adsorption of alcohols, while the entropy and the molecular packing of alcohols are revealed as the reason for the different adsorption behavior of benzene.

Toxicological research of novel nanomaterials is a major developmental step of their clinical approval. Since iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles have a great potential in cancer treatment and diagnostics, the investigation of their toxic properties is very topical. In this paper we synthesized bovine serum albumin‐coated iron oxide nanoparticles with different sizes and their polyethylene glycol derivative. To prove high biocompatibility of obtained nanoparticles the number of in vitro toxicological tests on human fibroblasts and U251 glioblastoma cells was performed. It was shown that albumin nanoparticles’ coating provides a stable and biocompatible shell and prevents cytotoxicity of magnetite core. On long exposure times (48 hours), cytotoxicity of iron oxide nanoparticles takes place due to free radical production, but this toxic effect may be neutralized by using polyethylene glycol modification.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) continues to be the most pervasive form of Violence against Women (VAW) in Pakistan, manifested through abuses varying in nature from physical, sexual, or economic to psychological form of violence. While these acts of violence occur at the micro level and are often explained in terms of individual or household characteristics, the macro landscape of access to justice, rule of law and governance mechanisms also shape the degree to which such acts continue to happen. Despite positive developments in the legal arena and policy landscape related to VAW, serious violations continue to take place which question the effectiveness of the mechanisms and structures in place to curb and prevent VAW. Based on an in-depth policy and legal analysis and drawing from a high-level discussion on barriers to women’s access to justice, especially related to IPV, this paper teases out the gaps and weaknesses that hinder women’s access to justice. The paper also elucidates a number of policy recommendations, which if adopted, can help ease women’s journey to achieve justice.
