Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis, Brum.f) tea is a known health-promoting drink. Its popularity is growing now. Nevertheless, the available publications concerning chemical, physiological and medicinal effects of rooibos describe only particular aspects of this plant. The review summarizing the physiological, medicinal and reproductive effects of this plant is absent now. In the present review, we have tried to summarize briefly the available information concerning rooibos provenance, constituents, properties, its action and application in the control and treatment of female reproductive and non-reproductive processes and their disorders. Search for literature was performed in agreement with the PRISMA (= preferred reporting items for systematic review) criteria (Moher et al., 2009; http://prism a-state ment.org/). To search the related articles, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science and SCOPUS databases between the years 2000 and 2021 were used. Only the most recent and informative publications concerning particular aspects of rooibos action have been described. In cases of repeated or conflicting information or references, more recent sources have been preferred. Words used to search were rooibos, Aspalathus linearis, review, fertility, ovarian and mechanisms. If the eligibility of some publications or their abstracts (due to lack of sufficient information concerning methods, results or their processing) was questionable, these details were verified by detailed analysis of the full text and supplementary materials, as well as by direct contact with the corresponding author. | Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis Brum.f) (family Fabaceae) is plant with green needle-shaped leaves and small yellow flowers, which can grow up to 2 m in height. The rooibos plant is indigenous to South Africa, specifically the Cederberg mountains region around Clanwilliam, North of Cape Town.
