Effects of Complexing Agent on Electrochemical Micro Machining of Stainless Steel

Abstract: Problem statement: Electrochemical Machining (ECM) is a prospective technique in micro machining. The productions of work piece in ECM are precipitation of hydroxide, which will block the machining gap. To prevent the formation of hydroxide, acids were often used. To machining work piece which is not acid-resistant, acids are not suitable. Approach: This study is conducted to find the effects of complexing agent on Electrochemical Micro Machining (ECM) of stainless steel. Compared to acids, the complexing agen… Show more

“…Kumaravel et al [23] conducted machining of austenitic SS316L using plain aqueous NaOH and nitrogen-gasassisted aqueous NaOH electrolytes to prevent surface cracks, heat-affected zones, and surface irregularities. Chen et al [24] added a certain amount of disodium ethylene diamine tetra acetate (EDTANa 2 ) to NaClO 3 solution as the electrolyte, and they processed micropores on SS304 with a thickness of 400 µm; adding EDTANa 2 reduced the deposition of electrolytic products on the tool electrode and improved the processing stability.…”

“…Structures of micro-seam and groove (penetrate or not penetrate) are widely used in the fields of instrumentation, aerospace, precision mould and home appliances etc. The machining accuracy, processing quality and processing efficiency have a great influence on the performance, quality and cost of products [1][2] . In ECM, material is removed to ionic form, widespread attention should be paid to research on how to improve the machining process stability as well as improve machining precision [3][4] .…”
