Effects of different dietary lipid sources on growth performance, body composition and lipid metabolism-related enzymes and genes of juvenile golden pompano,Trachinotus ovatus

Abstract: Three groups of juvenile golden pompano, Trachinotus ovatus (54.75 AE 0.25 g), were each fed one of three diets containing different lipid sources: fish oil (FO), soybean oil (SO) and lard oil (LO). Fish were reared in sea cages for 8 weeks, and the fish fed the FO diet had significantly higher specific growth rate (SGR) but lower condition factor (CF) than the other treatments. The fatty acid (FA) composition of whole-body lipids was closely correlated with those in the diets. Although no differences can be f… Show more

“…These results are in agreement with earlier studies of the effects of 100% VO replacement in different fish species (Emre, Kurtoğlu, Emre, Güroy, & Güroy, 2016;Li, Lin, Lin, Chen, & Guan, 2016;Liu et al, 2018;Montero et al, 2010). VOs are unique lipid sources, and fish have low capacity to convert C18:2n-6 (LA) and C18:3n-3 (ALA)…”

“…Lipid deposition is related to the lipid synthesis and oxidation rates. Fatty acid synthase is a necessary enzyme for lipid de novo synthesis (Liu et al, ; Semenkovich, ). In this study, the expression of fasn was up‐regulated in the FO and SO groups.…”

“…From the nutritional point of view, lipids and sugars have the greatest impacts on the hepatosomatic indexes of fish. The imbalance of these two nutrients will lead to whitening and pathological changes in fish liver (Liu et al, ). The present study selectively evaluates the effects of different lipids on the liver of M. salmoides .…”

“…Dietary lipids are considered to be the important source of energy and the essential fatty acids for the fish among all the nutrients besides acting as the carriers of fat soluble vitamins (Liu et al, 2018). Dietary lipids also have the property of protein sparing action where the optimum levels of lipid inclusion in the diets results in the proficient utilization of dietary protein for improved growth performance (Cho and Kaushik, 1990).…”
