Effects of different weaving patterns on thermomechanical and dynamic mechanical properties of Kevlar/pineapple leaf fiber hybrid composites

Abstract: In the present study, different weaving patterns (plain, twill, and basket types) on intra‐ply Kevlar and pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) woven hybrid fabrics with epoxy matrix composites were fabricated using compression molding process and their thermomechanical and dynamic mechanical characteristics were examined. From the results, it was evident that pure Kevlar composites have the best flexural, impact, and interlaminar shear strength properties of all composites. However, the basket type weaving pattern on i… Show more

“…Karaduman et al [ 28 ] examined the influence of different weave types quasi‐unidirectional, plain, basket (2/2), and twill (2/2) on the mechanical properties of hemp/epoxy composites. In another similar study, Jeyaguru et al [ 31 ] also analyzed the effect of weaving pattern and hybridization on the mechanical, thermal, and dynamic behavior of intra ply pineapple leaf fiber and kevlar fiber‐reinforced/epoxy composites. Findings of the investigation proved that mechanical strength and thermal stability of intra ply hybrid composites (for all weaving pattern) were enhanced as compared with pure pineapple leaf fiber composites.…”

“…There are two important points to understand here that the thermal expansion has direct relationship with the weaving pattern of the composites used for hybridization. [ 33 ] Second, hybridization of composite should be able to optimize the thermal, mechanical, acoustic and physical properties along with moisture absorbing capability. [ 34 ]…”
