Effects of flurbiprofen on serum level of interleukin-6, prostacyclin and corticosteroid A2 in patients with bone metastases of cancer

Abstract: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of flurbiprofen on serum level of interleukin-6 (IL-6), prostacyclin (PGI2) and corticosteroid A2 (TXA2) in patients with bone metastases of cancer. A total of 210 patients with bone metastasis of cancer were randomly divided into two groups: Flurbiprofen axetil analgesia group (group A) and dezocine analgesia group (group B), 105 cases in each group. The analgesic effect was evaluated using visual analogue scale (VAS) scoring system at 1, 12, 24 and 48 h afte… Show more

“…Flurbiprofen, a non-selective cyclooxygenase suppressor, was commonly used in anti-in ammation and pain control during surgery. Recently, urbiprofen has been reported to exert anti-cancer effects through suppressing proliferation and inducing apoptosis in several tumors [39,40]. Meclizine could inhibit breast cancer cells clonogenesis in vitro [41].…”

“…The use of NSAIDs perioperatively in cancer surgery has not been as well studied; in one intriguing study, the use of dexamethasone and flurbiprofen axetil perioperatively was associated with improved survival after resection for non-small cell lung cancer [55]. While the potential mechanism of this post-operative action is unknown, it is likely related to modulation of the inflammatory response, specifically on interleukins [56]. It is likely that the potential benefits of NSAID use in inhibiting the growth and spread of cancer cells outweigh the negative impact on wound healing in cancer patients.…”

“…Wu et al conducted a randomized controlled trial (RCT) recruiting 60 thoracotomy patients and found that the combination of dezocine and morphine had better analgesic effects and less adverse effects over using dezocine alone [ 18 ]. Flurbiprofen axetil is one of the NSAIDs applied in this clinical setting as well [ 19 ]. As Wu et al demonstrated in patients with cancer, opioids incorporating with flurbiprofen axetil yielded better pain relief and reducing drug consumption in comparison to opioids alone [ 20 ].…”

“…Flurbiprofen axetil and dezocine have different analgesia mechanisms. The former inhibits prostaglandins release to reduce the sensitivity of local pain receptors, while the latter acts on the κ opioid receptor in the central nerve system [ 17 , 19 ]. However, the benefit of this combined regimen was not tested in pain control after lobectomy.…”
