“…The current study examined the expression of genes related to the Keap1–Nrf2–GPx4 axis, a key regulatory pathway in ferroptosis, as well as hepcidin gene ( hamp ), which is a critical factor in iron homeostasis. The Nrf2-mediated antioxidant pathway has been considered to be the key to activate the cell defense system and resist oxidative damage [ 41 ]. Previous studies have shown that the state of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein-1 (Keap1) cysteine residue changes in the presence of exogenous stimuli, leading to the nuclear translocation of Nrf2, which is an important antioxidant factor.…”

“…Under stress conditions, the dissociation of the Keap1–Nrf2 complex results in the stabilization of Nrf2, which is then transferred into the nucleus and stimulates the expression of cellular protective genes, including antioxidant factors such as HO-1 , NQO1 , SOD , GST, and GSH-Px [ 40 ]. Previous studies have reported that the Nrf2 signaling pathway may be a key to controlling HS-induced oxidative stress [ 41 ]. This study revealed that the expression levels of antioxidant-related genes ( Nrf2 , HO-1 , NQO1 , and GSH-Px ) in the Nrf2 signaling pathway in muscle were significantly decreased by HS, whereas the mRNA expression of Keap1 was significantly increased.…”

“…Nrf2 depletion has negative effects on oocyte maturation and spindle/chromosome organization, and the decline in the reproductive capacity of older women is related to the downregulation of Nrf2 [44]. Expression of NRF2 mRNA peaks at 24 h post-HS in liver, which causes hepatocyte abnormalities [45]. HS has negative effects on bovine reproduction, and induces oxidative stress, and enhances Nrf2 expression in bovine granulosa cells [46].…”
