“…The potential of DPFP to increase defensive proteins are validated by these results, which further indicate the immune-modulatory activity of this plant-based on its phytochemical constituents. Following these outcomes, African catfish fed on diets supplemented with ginger, Zingiber officinale and Roselle, Hibiscus Sabdarifa for 70 days have also documented a parallel increase in the protein profile [78]. Furthermore, research findings published by Reference [62] also illuminated the elevation of the total protein levels in African catfish fed with clove basil.…”

“…Serum enzymes (ALT, AST, ALT) are important biomarkers for evaluating liver condition and function in animals (Iheanacho et al, 2017). Alternations in the activities of these enzymes indicate damage of hepatic cells and tissues which is tantamount to degenerative changes and dysfunction of the liver causing the release of serum enzymes into the blood serum (Firat et al,.…”

“…Blood and biochemical parameters are essential biomarkers for assessing the health status of animals with regards to environmental pollution (Adhikari et al, 2004;Iheanacho et al, 2017). Changes in blood parameters reflect pathophysiological conditions in animals most especially in pollution studies (Firatet al, 2015).…”

“…The present results showed that RE had no adverse effects on the fish tissue structure. Nevertheless, high level (4%) of dietary Roselle supplementation significantly increased circulating level of ALT and ALP levels in African sharptooth catfish, Clarias gariepinus , (Iheanacho et al, 2017), which might be indicators of tissue structural damages.…”
