Effects of cannabinoid receptor 1 (brain) on lipid accumulation by transcriptional control of CPT1A and CPT1B

Abstract: CB1 (also known as CNR1), a main receptor for cannabinoids acting at PPARs, can enhance fat deposition. Carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1 (CPT1), an enzyme responsible for the transport of long-chain fatty acids for β-oxidation, is closely related to fat deposition. Whether CB1 can regulate intramuscular adipocytes lipid accumulation through regulation of CPT1 is unclear. Based on the investigation of tissue- and breed-specific CPT1A and CPT1B mRNA expression levels in Jinhua and Landrace pigs, we studied the e… Show more

“…In addition, acyl-CoA was involved in various metabolic pathways, including the synthesis of triacylglycerols, synthetic phospholipid membranes, and fat synthesis [24]. CPT1A and CPT1B were involve in fatty acid oxidation [25]. AQP7 and SORBS1 are related to gluconeogenesis and adipocyte differentiation, respectively [26][27][28].…”

“…For example, blockade of CB1R activity is associated with upregulated PGC-1␣ gene expression and increased mitochondrial biogenesis in adipocytes (61,141). In addition, CB1R inhibition has also been shown to induce gene expression of several enzymes implicated in ␤-oxidation (e.g., CPT-1) and the TCA cycle (e.g., fumarase and oxoglutarate dehydrogenase) (61,162). Consistent with these findings, treatment with SR141716 has recently been reported to stimulate ␤-oxidation in cultured mouse liver explants (64).…”
