Effects of ion doping at different sites on electrical properties of multiferroic BiFeO3ceramics

et al.

Abstract: Pure, La3+ doped at A site, V5+ doped at B site, and La3+ and V5+ co-doped multiferroic BiFeO3 ceramics: BiFeO3 (BFO), Bi0.85La0.15FeO3 (BLF), BiFe0.97V0.03O3 (BFV), Bi0.85La0.15Fe0.97V0.03O3 (BLFV), etc were successfully prepared by a rapid liquid sintering technique. X-ray diffraction indicated that these ceramics were of polycrystalline perovskite structures, accompanied with a tiny residual Bi2O3 phase. It was found that, among these ceramics, BLFV ceramic exhibited the best electrical properties. The leak… Show more

“…The remnant polarization ͑Pr͒ and the coercive field are ϳ1.05 C / cm 2 and 10 kV/cm, respectively. The measured Pr is comparable to that of doped BFO ceramic prepared by Benfang et al, 29 Sahu and Rao, 30 and Zhu and Ye. 15 But the observed Pr value is much less than the theoretically predicted value.…”

“…A or B sites substitution in BFO can lead to reduction in leakage current, increase in resistivity, and enhancement in the ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties. 13,14 Hence, there is a lot of research going on in the synthesis of suitably doped BFO. For example, Yu et al 13 3 (BFM) films in a wide range of electric fields.…”

Kawae et al 16 have studied the leakage current density of Bi 1Àx Nd x Fe 1Ày Mn y O 3 (x ¼ 0À0.07 and y ¼ 0-0.07) thin films and achieved the lowest leakage current in the films with the composition of x ¼ 0.05 and y ¼ 0.03.…”

“…In order to elucidate the microscopic origins of the magnetoelectric coupling in these systems, there have been a number of investigations on the response of various multiferroic materials under different types of perturbations 6,7,8,9 . Within this broad field of study, chemical doping has been used effectively as a tool to study how the structural, magnetic, and electrical properties of multiferroics are affected by small changes in composition 10,11,12 . Doping studies have also been used to explore how the multiferroic ordering temperature changes and microscopic magnetic interactions that give rise to the multiferroic behavior are affected under perturbations, providing insight into the stability of the magnetic interactions 12,13,14,15 .…”
