This research has several purposes: First to assess the bacterial and fungal minimum inhibitory concentration of Origanum Syriacum essential oil. Second to quantify its bactericidal and fungicidal minimal concentration against S. aureus , S. mutans , and C. albicans found in denture stomatitis. The third purpose is to look at the influence of three different soils (Annaya, Bhanin and Michrif) on the essential oils composition. Three essential oils were extracted by hydro-distillation from three different Origanum Syriacum plant origins. Bioassays were conducted using a broth microdilution methods. Gas Chromatography analysis was used to calculate the abundance of most components in each essential oil. Post hoc tests assessed antimicrobial effects between ecotypes while Pearson’s test correlated the different components and their antimicrobial efficiency (α < 0.05). All tested essential oils were efficient against all microorganisms. Origanum Syriacum essential oils derived from Annaya and Bhanin soils showed a superior antimicrobial activity compared to the Michrif one. The most abundant component and most efficient among all essential oils constituents was carvacrol. It can be concluded that Origanum Syriacum essential oils have an antimicrobial activity, which depends on the ecotype, its origin and its composition. They might be used to start a clinical trial for the treatment of denture stomatitis.

Objective. Infection control protocols in dentistry dictate that orthodontic acrylics have to be disinfected. No specific products for orthodontic acrylics are available. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of chemical disinfectants on mechanical properties of orthodontic acrylics.Materials and Methods. 260 test specimens of two cold-curing orthodontic acrylics were manufactured. Three chemical disinfecting agents were tested: Impresept, D050 Instru-Gen, and Stammopur DR. Test specimens were stored in distilled water and divided into test groups. E-Modulus, flexural strength, macro hardness, micro hardness, average roughness, and colour change were measured.Results. Disinfection agents showed no significant influence on E-modulus. Values ranged from 1783.80 ± 163.80 MPa (Forestacryl colourless) to 2474.00 ± 135.00 MPa (Orthocryl green) after storage in distilled water. Disinfection agents performed no significant influence on flexural strength. Values ranged from 18.64±1.59 N/mm2(Forestacryl colourless) to 25.64 ± 1.43 N/mm2(Orthocryl green) after storage in distilled water. Orthocryl colourless showed a reduction of the macro hardness after disinfection (Stammopur DR (p≤0.001), D050 Instru-Gen (p≤0.037)). Disinfection of Orthocryl green with D050 Instru-Gen (p<0.001) and Forestacryl colourless with Impresept (p≤0.001) led to a reduction of macro hardness. Micro hardness of Orthocryl colourless altered significantly after disinfection with D050 Instru-Gen (p≤0.001). Micro hardness of Forestacryl colourless increased (Impresept (p≤0.039)) and decreased (Stammopur DR (p≤0.006) Instru-Gen (p≤0.001)) after disinfection. Average roughness did not change significantly (Orthocryl colourless). Forestacryl colourless performed a significant change after disinfection with Stammopur DR (p≤0.05). This is also true for the disinfection of Orthocryl green and Forestacryl pink with Instru-Gen (p≤0.05). Disinfection performed no significant influence on colour change. ΔE-values were in a range of 1 to 2.Conclusions. Some orthodontic acrylics disinfection caused significant changes of determined parameters. Changes were specific for the applied disinfectant and tested orthodontic acrylic. Further studies should verify the impact of long-term disinfection intervals. Thus, from manufacturers of orthodontic acrylics recommendations for appropriate disinfectants would be desirable.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the effects of three commercially available denture cleansing solutions on the dimensional stability of heat cure acrylic denture bases. Methods: Twenty four maxillary acrylic denture base samples were constructed and divided into four groups. Group 1. water as control, group 2. 1% Sodium hypochlorite, group 3. 2% Chlorhexidine, and Group 4. Kin tablet solution. Linear dimensional measurements were conducted along with five-time intervals: 0 times: before immersion, three days, ten days, one month, and two months after immersion. After each time interval, the specimens were photographed in a standardized manner, and the images were evaluated by Image J software. The dimensions between six projection points on the intaglio surface of denture bases were recorded and compared. Data were submitted to statistical analysis (Two-way ANOVA, Tukey test, p < 0.05). Results: All specimens in three disinfectant solutions and water exhibited a small amount of linear expansion at all time intervals. The expansion was significant compared to the 0-time immersion. On the tenth day of immersion, the dimensional change becomes stable and constant until the end of the two months. Among the three disinfectants, 1% of Sodium hypochlorite registered the least expansion in some measured lines at two-time intervals followed by 2% Chlorhexidine. Conclusions: Cleanser solutions induced dimensional changes on acrylic denture bases similar to the effect of water in all examined measurements. The long time cleanser's immersion had the same effect on the dimension as the short time effect.
