Effects of low pseudoallergen diet on urticarial activity and leukotriene levels in chronic urticaria

Abstract: Pseudoallergens and leukotrienes (LTs) may have a role in chronic urticaria (CU). The aim of our study is to evaluate the response to the low pseudoallergen diet therapy in patients with CU and the change in LT levels in diet responsive and non-responsive patients. 34 patients with CU were put on diet for 4 weeks. All patients kept a daily score sheet of pruritus and whealing symptoms. The urticarial activity score (UAS) of each patient was calculated with the sum of pruritus and wheal score. The sum score of … Show more

“…These findings are comparable to studies performed with low‐pseudoallergen diet in patients with CsU, which is effective in 31–71% of the cases . In fact, reduction of pseudoallergen uptake in urticaria patients helps to diminish symptoms due to several mechanisms, one of them appearing to be the reduction leukotriene levels …”

“…W przypadku niektó rych chorych na PPS stwierdza się pseudoalergie w stosunku do niektórych naturalnych składników pokarmowych (reakcje nadwrażliwości na pokarmy niezależne od IgE), a czasami reakcje na dodatki do żywności [36,37,[88][89][90]. Od czasu wydania poprzed niej wersji wytycznych proponowana dieta wolna od pseudoalergenów została z sukcesem wprowadzona w różnych krajach [91].…”

“…In a subgroup of chronic spontaneous urticaria patients, pseudoallergic reactions (non-IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reactions) to naturally occurring food ingredients and in some cases to food additives have been observed [ 16 -20 ]. Since the last version of the guidelines, the proposed pseudoallergen free diet has now also been successfully tested in different countries [ 21 ].…”
