Effects of Metabolic Risk Factors on Production of Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 and Adiponectin by Adipocytes

Abstract: Background Type 1 plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) and adiponectin are produced by adipocytes and are important in the progression of coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods and Results Different concentrations of glucose, insulin and 1% triglycerides were used to assay PAI-1 and adiponectin production from cultured adipocytes. Triglycerides induced the highest PAI-1 production with 16.5 mmol/L glucose and 50 nmol/L insulin. In contrast, glucose and insulin decreased adiponectin production in a dose-depe… Show more

“…GRB 090529A was detected by the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) onboard Swift (Sakamoto et al 2009a) at 14:12:35 ut on 2009 May 29 (trigger 353540) during a pre‐planed slew. Because Swift did not observe the start of the burst, its T 90 duration can only be given as a lower limit.…”

“…Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) is an adipocytokine and an increased level of PAI-1 leads to inadequate fibrinolysis. 18 Endothelial cells also secrete PAI-1 and an increased level of PAI-1 represents endothelial dysfunction. 19 The RAS exerts substantial control over the fibrinolytic system.…”

“…In addition to the role of PAI-1 in breast cancer migration and invasion, it has been implicated in an inflammatory response [57], neutrophil recruitment, and in proliferation of smooth muscle cells [58]. Furthermore, increased PAI-1 levels have been associated with obesity [5962], with recent reports suggesting the elevation in PAI-1 levels is the result of PAI-1 production from adipocytes [6365]. …”

“…A number of other adipokines are associated with cancer progression and metastasis, including PAI-1 [64, 65, 100]. As stated previously, obese individuals have elevated serum levels of PAI-1 [59, 101].…”
