Effects of nozzle hole size and rail pressure on diesel spray and mixture characteristics under similar injection rate profile – experimental, computational and analytical studies under non-evaporating spray condition

Abstract: In the present work, effects of nozzle hole size and rail pressure under non-evaporating spray condition are demonstrated. Three single hole injectors with the bore size of 0.101, 0.122, and 0.133 mm are experimented with injection pressures of 140, 45, and 38 MPa respectively to achieve similar injection rate profile. Diesel spray experiments implement Diffused Backlight Illumination Technique where diffused background is obtained for the High Speed Video camera imaging. Experimental results are then validate… Show more

“…Length and radius were set to 100 and 20 mm respectively, with the total mesh size of 475,200 cells. The spray penetration and diffusion regions for each spray plume were encrypted (shown in of the previous studies 15 with the minimum cell size of 0.33 mm). Three boundary conditions that is, Top, Sides, and Bottom were defined using Selections option.…”

“…1)'' causes high hydrocarbons and PM emissions. [14][15][16][17] Studies depicting spray and mixture characteristics usually involve single-hole injectors because of their simplicity, fewer machining errors and easiness of understanding. Many theoretical and computational models are also based on the single-hole injector theory (i.e.…”

“…Holography is one of the unique methods of recording three-dimensional information Fuels 2023, 4 on a fuel spray by using the interference of laser light. It has demonstrated the ability to provide temperature distributions, velocity, droplet size and vapor concentration inside a fuel spray [7][8][9], but due to noise interference, it can only provide estimations in moderate ambient density/temperature and low atmospheric vapor concentration. Raman spectroscopy technique was applied for a line-imaging or single-point measurement of fuel-air ratio inside the combustion chamber [10,11].…”
