Effects of oestrogen and Cimicifuga racemosa on the cardiac noradrenaline pathway of ovariectomized rats

Abstract: What is the central question of this study? We investigated the effects of oestrogen and Cimicifuga racemosa on the stellate ganglion, cardiac noradrenaline pathway and Ca -calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II in ovariectomized rats. What is the main finding and its importance? The right stellate ganglion, but not the left, may be associated with decreased left ventricular noradrenaline content in ovariectomized rats. Oestrogen can reverse all changes caused by ovariectomy. Cimicifuga racemosa did not affect… Show more

“…Chemiluminescent signals were detected using the gray value of bands and quantified with Image Pro Plus 6.0 software. After getting the absolute gray value of each band, the relative gray value was obtained by the absolute gray value of the target protein/the absolute gray value of the internal reference protein [45].…”

“…In Korean folk medicine, it has been widely used for this purpose. Research has been conducted on the potential action of CR extract on the allergic response in mast cells shown to inhibit the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction induced by anti-IgE- in a dose-dependent manner, and also to inhibit the mRNA of cytokines (induced by inflammatory agents); It may claim the anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects but the anti-oxidant property of CR extract shows conflicting results [ 29 , 127 , 128 ]. Furthermore, CR extract can also be used for the treatment of several other diseases such as diabetes, neoplasia, sarcopenia and myocardial insufficiency, obesity, etc.…”

“…There is a reduction in noradrenaline content in the cardiac tissue of OVX rats but, there is an increase in the expression of the noradrenaline transporter (NET), the β1 adrenergic receptor (β1AR) and the Ca 2+ –dependent protein calmodulin kinase II (CAMK II) that is reversed after treatment with E2 [ 93 ]. In the absence of estrogen induced by OVX, there is an asymmetry in the expression of noradrenaline synthase, dopamine β-hydroxylase and NET because of an impairment of NET function.…”
