Effects of preflood nitrogen rate and midseason nitrogen timing on flooded rice

Abstract: A field study was conducted to investigate the agronomic performance, nitrogen (N) efficiencies, yield components and yield of rice in Spain for different nitrogen treatments. The experimental variants were six preflood N rates (0, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 kg/ha) and three topdressing patterns: (i) non- topdressed, (ii) topdressed with 50 kg N/ha at mid-tillering stage (MT) and (iii) topdressed at panicle initiation stage (PI). The N status of the plant was measured at different growing stages to determine … Show more

“…In both sites, NUE a Downloaded by [York University Libraries] at 10:11 18 November 2014 exceeded the ones reported by Singh et al (1998) for a low-NUE japonica cultivar. Moreover, mean NUE a for site 1 was close to maximum value indicated by Carreres et al (2000) for a japonica cultivar grown under different N rates.…”

“…Recentemente, foi demonstrado a potencialidade do SPAD-502 para avaliar a resposta de diversas espécies à aplicação do nitrogênio (Hoel & Solhaug, 1998;Wu et al, 1998;Sainz-Rozas & Echeverria, 1998;Madakadze et al, 1999;Carreres et al, 2000;Sandoval-Villa et al, 2000).…”

“…However, N recovery efficiency is low in flooded culture because of N losses, primarily due to ammonia volatilization. Measurements in field trials show efficiencies lower than 50%, in both tropic (Fageria and Baligar, 2001) and temperate climates (Carreres et al, 2000). However, efficiencies close to 70% can be achieved by fertilizer application at the proper rate and time (Peng and Cassman, 1998).…”
