Effects of replacement of Moringa oleifera for berseem clover in the diets of Nubian goats on feed utilisation, and milk yield, composition and fatty acid profile

Abstract: Replacement of conventional feedstuffs with cheap non-conventional ingredients may improve livestock performance and the quality of their products, particularly milk. The study considered the effects of Moringa oleifera (MO) foliage in replacement of berseem clover (BC) on feed utilisation and lactational performance in Nubian goats. A total of 16 lactating Nubian does, weighing 36.2±0.8 kg, were randomly assigned to four experimental treatments containing 0, 125, 250 and 375 g of MO per kg diet to replace 0 (… Show more

“…Supplementation of ALO at 0.4 % significantly reduced the antherogenic index when compared with animals fed 0% ALO. This reveals that ALO can reduce the incidence of arteriosclerosis and other cardiovascular infections which is in accordance with the reports of Kholif, et al [38].…”

“…Fadiyimu et al (88) reported a predominantly high trend in crude protein intake, dry matter and nutrient digestibility, nitrogen retention, and hematological profile gain in West African dwarf sheep fed with Panicum maximum meal with 25% M. oleifera leaves supplements. According to (89), supplementation with M. oleifera leaf to replace 75% dry matter of berseem clover can improve feed utilization in Nubian goats. They also observed that Moringa diets increased serum total protein, albumin, and glucose levels but decreased cholesterol and triglyceride levels.…”

“…The PHY3 treatment improved milk production and ECM by 6.4 and 14.9%, respectively, possibly caused by improved feed utilization and ruminal fermentation (Matloup et al, 2017;Kholif et al, 2018b). In the present experiment, the PHY3 diet improved nutrient digestion and total ruminal VFA concentration which are the main reasons for the enhanced lactational performance (Morsy et al, 2018;Braun et al, 2019;Elcoso et al, 2019).…”
