Effects of Sesame Oil on the Reproductive Parameters of Diabetes Mellitus-Induced Male Rats

Abstract: PurposeThe purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of sesame oil on the reproductive parameters of diabetic male Wistar rats.Materials and MethodsThe adult male rats in a split plot design were divided into normal (n=10), normal 5% (n=5; 5% sesame oil enriched diet), diabetic (Streptozocin induced diabetes; n=9), diabetic 5% (n=9; 5% sesame oil enriched diet), and diabetic 10% (n=9; 10% sesame oil enriched diet) groups. Diet supplementation continued for 56 days.ResultsSesame oil supplementa… Show more

“…The capability of MLT to protect body weight losses seems to be a result of its ability to increase antioxidant capacity and reduce the hyperglycemia and ROS. In our study, the total testis weights (except that of the MLT group) did not show any difference between and within the groups studied, as reported by Abbasi et al [37] . In the MLT group, total testis weight decreased markedly from 15 th d to 45 th d.…”

“…No marked change in total sperm number was observed by Abbasi et al [37] , while the daily sperm production in rats and the sperm concentration in mice and rats decreased in the STZ-induced diabetes [4,[40][41][42][43][44] . Herein, the sperm concentration in the 45 th d markedly decreased in the DM group as compared to those in the C group, but the MLT treatment of diabetic rats did not lead to recovering effect for a decrease in the sperm concentration.…”

“…Phytoestrogens are phenolic compounds which are similar to hormones and nonsteroidal that derived from estrogen of sesame and are found in sesame seed, affect the reproductive system of male animals [70]. Sesame oil supplementation improved the reproductive parameters of diabetic rats at the levels of the testicular microstructure and function [71]. Moreover, TAC levels were significantly increased in group that has received 75mg/kg cinnamon daily for 4 weeks in comparison to control group [72].…”
