Effects of Short–Term Medical Mission Trips to Chiapas, Mexico, on the Religiosity of the Missionaries

Abstract: This article reports on the changes seen in the religious attitudes and charitable works performed following participation in a short-term medical mission. After serving on a mission trip to Mexico, we found that United States-based missionaries had an increase in their private religious activities, felt closer to God, were more likely to help the poor in their own neighborhoods, and were more likely to discuss their Christian faith than prior to the mission trip. We discuss possible reasons for these changes.

“…Nearly 36% of plastics are used in the packaging sector owing to their low cost, easy processability, and flexibility (Figure A). However, the use of plastics has led to environmental concerns (Figure B) due to the presence of non-biodegradable chemical moieties (because of strong −C–C units in the polymer backbone) in many of these materials. In addition, conventional plastics are primarily derived from non-renewable (petroleum derivatives) resources. On the other hand, paper is a plant-based renewable material derived from cellulose, and it can be easily recycled, has good mechanical properties, and is eco-friendly . These properties provide strong motivation to maximize their application in packaging and non-packaging sectors. , However, paper in its unmodified form has poor water and oil resistance.…”
