Effects of TGF-β1 on the Proliferation and Apoptosis of Human Cervical Cancer Hela Cells In Vitro

Abstract: To investigate the effects of TGF-β1 on the proliferation and apoptosis of cervical cancer Hela cells in vitro. Human cervical cancer Hela cells were cultured in vitro and divided into the experimental and control groups. In the experimental groups, Hela cells were stimulated with different concentrations of TGF-β1 (0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10 ng/mL), while Hela cells cultured in serum-free medium without TGF-β1 were used as controls. The CCK8 method was adopted to detect the effect of TGF-β1 on Hela cell proliferati… Show more

“…TGF-β1 is a type of cytokine with many biological functions. By interfering with cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, invasion, attachment and ECM synthesis, TGF-β1 participates in various complicated physiological and pathological processes, for example, embryo development, inflammation, angiogenesis, fibrosis and carcinogenesis, in a human body [3741]. The TGF-β1/smad signaling pathway has been proven to have a definite correlation to the treatment of hepatic fibrosis [42].…”

“…MMP2 is a protein connected with the ability of tumour metastasis, it can accelerate tumour invasion by degrading the extracellular matrix and the basement membrane [33]. TGF-b1 is a well-known chemokine that plays an important role in cancer progression and contributes to disease deterioration, and it is also involved in regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation and invasion [34,35]. E-cadherin is epithelial markers of epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) which is involved in embryonic development, wound healing, tissue remodelling, and malignant tumour metastasis.…”

“…As tumor size increases and more TGF-β is produced, this effect is either lost or is overcome by pro-apoptotic or cytostatic effects [13, 33, 34], resulting in a growth plateau after day 5. Apoptotic effects of TGF-β have also been demonstrated in human cancer cells in vitro [35, 36]. …”
