Effects of the Combined PDL/Nd:YAG Laser on Surgical Scars: Vascularity and Collagen Changes Evaluated byIn VivoConfocal Microscopy

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of the sequential combined 585 nm PDL and the 1064 nm neodymium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet laser (PDL/Nd:YAG) in the treatment of surgical scars and to evaluate the short-term effects by in vivo confocal microscopy (RCM) and the long-term effects by clinical assessment of the scars. Twenty-five patients were enrolled with 39 postoperative linear scars; each scar was divided into two fields. One half was treated with the combined PDL/Nd:YAG laser, whereas the … Show more

“…Concerns arise from cases of generalized pustular psoriasis flares, erythroderma or worsening psoriasis upon tapering or discontinuing systemic corticosteroids. 1,2 Despite the lack of relevant treatment guidelines, recent studies report that systemic corticosteroids are prescribed commonly for psoriasis. 3,4 Estimates from the U.S. National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey showed that 3.1% of psoriasis visits resulted in a systemic corticosteroid prescription, making it the second most frequently prescribed systemic medication for psoriasis prior to 2010.…”

“…1 Skin site involved is important since the location of scars in 'aesthetic' sites, such as the face, can cause psychological problems for patients. 2 In order to improve scar appearance, different therapeutic approaches have been employed. [2][3][4] However, the application of fractional picosecond-domain laser (PSL) 5,6 to atrophic scars has not been previously reported.…”

“…Krisztina Vas et al, one half of each of the postoperative linear scars immediately after suture removal was treated three times at monthly intervals with the combined 585/1,064 nm laser and the cosmetic appearances of the treated and untreated scar halves were compared. 18 In this patient case, we combined the effects of the known CO2 laser with the effect of the Cynergy. It was also confirmed that early treatment with laser treatment could have a good effect on scar treatment.…”
