Effects of the control method (Goc variety) in selection forest management in Western Serbia

Abstract: The control method, one of the most reliable methods of selection forest management, has been applied in selection forests of western Serbia in a somewhat modified form (Goc variety) for fifty years. This paper analyzes the effects of the control method, i.e. its Goc variety, in the period from 1960/70 - 2000. It is based on the data of five successive complete inventories of the Forest Management Unit (FMU) 'Tara', whose high selection forest of spruce, fir and beech (Piceo-Abieti-Fagetum subass. typicum) tre… Show more

“…The accummulation of trees of large dimensions was also recorded in the selection forests of beech, fir and spruce on Mt. Tara (Medarević & Obradović, 2007;Obradović, 2008;Medarević et al, 2010;Pantić et al, 2012), in beech and fir forests in Slovenia (Bončina et al, 2002), and in the beech and fir forests in Croatia (Čavlović, 2000; Čavlović et al, 2006). Such a process negatively affects rejuvenation, recruitment, further development and stability of these forests, and according to O'Hara & Gersonde ( 2004), it is necessary to control the number and distribution of trees within the stands, i.e.…”

“…Recruitment plays an important role in the life and development of the selection forest (Miletić, 1950, 1954, 1957, Milojković, 1986, Tomanić, 1989, Duc, 1991, Medarević, 2006, Čavlović, 2013 The number of recruited trees and structure in terms of tree species are significant elements of development, structural stability and functionality of the selection forest (Medarević, Obradović, 2007;Medarević et al, 2010). In the investigated SPs on Mt.…”

“…In addition, when analyzing the selection forests of fir, spruce and beech in general in better habitats of Mt. Tara (type of forest 750), there is a permanent decrease in the number of trees (M e d a rev i ć , Obradović, 2007;Obradović, 2008;Medarević et al, 2010).…”

“…Слична динамика овог елемента констатована је и у мешовитим шумама букве и јеле у Хрватској, у газдинској јединици Белевине (Č avl ovi ć, 2000), у Словенији у Лесковној Долини (Kl o p či č, B o n či n a, 2011), у Босни у Перућици (Keren et al, 2014) и у средњој Европи (O'Hara et al, 2007). Такође, када се у целини анализирају пребирне шуме јеле, смрче и букве на бољим стаништима Таре (тип шуме 750) присутно је перманенто смањивање броја Obradović, 2008;Medarević et al, 2010).…”
