Effects of trust and perceived risk on user acceptance of a new technology service

Abstract: We explored the precise impacts of trust and perceived risk on the core constructs of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). We applied the UTAUT model to the novel context of the Certified e-Document Authority (CeDA) service used in the Republic of Korea. Our results from structural equation modeling largely supported our hypotheses. Trust and perceived risk were shown to be direct antecedents of intention to use, and trust functioned as an indirect antecedent. Performance expectancy … Show more

“…Our results concur with the literature that empirically demonstrates that acceptability is associated with perceived risk and trust in regulatory institutions [4][5][6][7]11,12]. Moreover, there is evidence which shows that, for environmental hazards, both trust in regulatory institutions and perceived risk would determine social acceptability [13,14,70].…”

“…Our results agree with the hypothesis that the classical variables used in the field of risk perception are related to each other [11][12][13][14] and are also related to the compensation demanded. Our results support empirically and theoretically that compensation demanded is suitable to be used in this type of relationship when it comes to environmental impacts.…”

“…Perceived risk of the new mobile payment system Finally, as mentioned previously, different research studies have revealed that the perceived risk has a negative influence on attitude (Teo and Liu 2007;Hsu et al 2011) and, of course, on the intention to use (Lorenzo Romero et al 2011;Kesharwani and Bisht 2012;Lee and Song 2013). Miyazaki and Fernandez (2001) state that the online purchase rate is negatively related to risk perception.…”

“…Recent research studies have been conducted on technology acceptance and use (e.g., Lee & Lerche, Weinberger, Ceobanu, & Heymann, 2014;Venkatesh, Thong, & Xu, 2012). For example, trust and perceived risk were found to be direct determinants of intention to use a technological tool (Lee & Song, 2013). Additionally, Venkatesh, Thong, and -tion, price, and habit in impacting technology use, which is tailored to the context of consumer adoption and use of technology.…”
