Efficacy of Hummel (Modified Schlumberger) Arrays of Vertical Electrical Sounding in Groundwater Exploration: Case Study of Parts of Ibadan Metropolis, Southwestern Nigeria

Abstract: This research compared the interpretation results of the Vertical Electrical Sounding data acquired using the conventional Schlumberger and modified Schlumberger arrays with a view to assessing the effectiveness of the modified Schlumberger arrays of vertical electrical sounding as an alternative to the conventional Schlumberger array at sites with space constraint during groundwater exploration. A total of thirty-seven (37) sounding locations were occupied and one hundred (100) sounding data for both conventi… Show more

“…The dominant rock types in Ibadan area are the quartzite of the metasedimentary series, migmatite -gneiss complex comprising the banded gneiss, augen gneiss and the migmatite ( Figure 2). These rocks are intruded by pegmatite, quartz veins, aplites and dolerite dykes (Oladunjoye and Jekayinfa, 2015). Quartz schist outcrops occur as long ridges with relative a high elevation and strike running in the N -S direction between 340° and 350° with a consistent eastern dip.…”

“…VES data acquisition of 18 points scattered randomly in the study area (Fig. 2), was carried out with a Schlumberger array as the most popular configuration for this method [20], [21]. The stretch of the current electrode (AB / 2), ranging from 1.5 m to 225 m. This method is used to measure the resistivity value at the measurement point by optimizing it vertically.…”
