“…Lateral flow devices are one of the most widely used POC diagnostic tools for the detection of infectious diseases owing to their advantages of simplicity, easy operation, rapidness, durable stability, cost-effectiveness, and minimum user intervention [412] , [413] , [414] . Since the first lateral flow device developed in the 1980s for pregnancy self-testing, there have been various lateral flow devices developed for all kinds of applications, including biomarker detection, disease diagnosis, food safety, environment monitoring and so on [415] , [416] , [417] , [418] , [419] , [420] . A typical lateral flow device consists of a nitrocellulose membrane, sample pad, conjugate pad, and absorbent pad with all the required chemicals and reagents pre-stored in the test strip [393] , [421] .…”

“…Coupling a dry-chemistry and a fluorescence approaches, Huang et al 119 were able to detect and quantify eight biomarkers for diagnostic of AMI in a single lateral flow test strip. Blood lipids, biomarkers for coronary heart disease, including cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and uric acid (UA) were detected based on the Trinder reaction.…”

“…Given that a single fluorescent molecule is limited by its signal, many works have explored the use of multiple or a package of fluorescent labels which can be immobilized onto a high-porosity substrate, including, for example, MOFs, 129,130 palladium−iridium nanotubes, 131 ZnONWs, 125 pGold, 26 raspberry-type europium particles, 132 magnetic microspheres, 133 and latex microspheres. 134 The high porosity and extremely large surface area inherent in MOFs provide large loading capacity to a variety of guest molecules, for example, Zou et al developed a ZrMOF@ CdTe NP-based lateral flow assay (LFA) for the qualitative analysis of cTnT with a detection limit of 50 ÎŒg/L, in which the encapsulation of QDs in MOFs provided an ultrahigh surface area and thus enhanced the fluorescence intensity of QDs and the visual recognition. 130 Wong et al coupled the magnetic silica nanoparticle and an aptamer-based DNA nanostructure fluorophore via employing an amplified hybridization chain reaction to achieve highsensitive detection of cTnI.…”
