Einflu totaler Nahrungskarenz auf Serumproteinkonzentrationen

Abstract: During a period of total fasting restricted to three weeks, haptoglobin, transferrin and beta1A-globin showed a marked, continuous decline. The complement was finally distinctly below the reference range. Macroglobulins and coeruloplasmin rised until the tenth day and decreased thereafter. IgG globulin remained essentially unchanged while immunoglobulins gammaA and gammaM showed an increase. On account of the considerable fluctuations observed in the protein fractions fasting in this form at least beyond a per… Show more

“…Immune dysfunction has been observed in chronically undernourished subjects [47]. Starvation itself for 5-10 days does not affect immunoglobulin levels [48][49][50] and an increase has been observed in obese subjects during fasting [51]. However, it remains to be shown whether reduced immunoglobulins (Table 4) is due to a synergistic effect of exercise and starvation.…”

“…The decrease in potassium is a well-known phenomenon (23). The plasma proteins prealbumin, retinol-binding protein, and haptoglobin decreased, as has been reported by others (24). The levels of retinol-binding protein have been suggested to be good indicators of vitamin A concentrations (25); however, the patients reported no symptoms attributable to vitamin A deficiency.…”

“…In fact, the plasma concentrations of total protein, albumin, and retinol-binding protein remain unchanged during a VLED weight-loss program [6]. By contrast, total starvation for 3 weeks decreases the levels of haptoglobin, transferrin, retinol-binding protein, and immunoglobulins [19,59], but do not affect mean plasma albumin levels [19,35,59].…”
