Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, inflammatory and autoimmune disease of multifactorial etiology that mainly affects women. Various environmental and genetic factors contribute to its development. Some genes that code proteins and that regulate the immune system have been associated with susceptibility to RA. One of them is the VEGF-A gene, which codes for vascular endothelial growth factor type A and plays an important role in the angiogenic and pro-inflammatory process in RA. In this gene, single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) reported as risk factors for RA and other human entities such as-1154G/A (rs1570360),-2578C/A (rs699947) and-634 G/C have been identified. (rs2010963).
