Quarterly political criticism magazine for Spanish--speaking communities, published in Paris during the 1970--1972 biennium. It served as an arena for the Latin American and the Spanish progressive left--wing (of which several members of the Generation of the 50s were part) to debate the situation and commitment of intellectuals as regards the Cuban revolutionary process. The change in the course of Castro's government cultural policy and the impact caused by the Padilla case altered the compact sociogram of the contributors of Libre and put an end to the existence of a shared revolutionary political ethos.
