El wakax kan y otros textos acatecos

Abstract: These texts from San Miguel Acatán in Guatemala are in Acateco, a Mayan language closely related to Kanjobal and Jacaltec. They were written, translated, and in part analyzed by José Juan Andrés. The first story relates how the Wakax kan'sky cow' , flattened part of the town. Four other stories deal with nawals and lords of the mountain. Two short selections describe beliefs associated with sickness and feast-days. Grammatical notes related to the texts are included in the introduction.
