Elaboration of Architectured Copper Clad Aluminium Composites by a Multi-Step Drawing Process

Abstract: Architectured copper clad aluminium composites processed by a restacking drawing method at room temperature are reported in this work. Wires were drawn to severe plastic strain without any intermediate annealing. Three different diameters were studied in order to examine the influence of a different plastic deformation level on the structure of the different wires. Thanks to image processing it has been shown that independently of the plastic deformation, inserted fibers remain continuous and are homogeneous i… Show more

“…At present, microdoped high-strength Al alloys are considered to be promising materials for electrical engineering, in particular, for the replacement of copper alloys in small-sized avionics wiring by the Al alloys [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. It will allow reducing the weight of the on-board wiring of modern aircraft and increasing the load capacity, energy efficiency, etc., of these ones in the future.…”

“…It will allow reducing the weight of the on-board wiring of modern aircraft and increasing the load capacity, energy efficiency, etc., of these ones in the future. The conductor Al alloys should have high strength and thermal stability [ 1 , 2 , 3 ] as well as good plasticity at room and elevated temperatures to ensure the possibility of making small-sized bimetallic wires of 0.2–0.5 mm in diameter by drawing or rolling from workpieces.…”

“…The replacement of copper wires by aluminum ones is one of the relevant problems of modern aviation electrical engineering [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. This would allow reducing the weight of the on-board electrical wiring of modern aircrafts at the same as increasing thermal stability, high electrical conductivity, and strength at elevated temperatures [ 4 , 5 ].…”

“…In this paper, Cu-20 wt% Ag alloy wire was prepared through three-chamber vacuum and cold mold vertical continuous up-casting followed by multi-pass continuous drawing [29]. The effect of drawing process on the microstructure, texture, mechanical properties, and electrical performance of Cu-20 wt% Ag alloy wire was systematically studied.…”
