Elastic Scattering of Deuterons by Lithium-7

Abstract: The elastic scattering of deuterons by lithium-7 nuclei has been investigated in the energy region from Ed=0A0 to 1.80 MeV. The scattering cross sections tend to be lower than the Rutherford value below about 0.85 MeV, and then rise to values several times the Rutherford value for higher energies. A conspicuous anomaly in the scattering cross section occurs near 1 MeV, where the reaction cross sections also show resonances, while there is no prominent scattering anomaly corresponding to the reaction resonances… Show more

“…7 (blue dash-dotted line). Compared to the (d, 7 Li) NCSM/RGM results (green dashed line), the first peak is roughly the same (save for differences in the energy grids used in the two calculations) while the second becomes much more pronounced and narrower due to the inclusion of the 9 Be eigenstates, which have also the effect of bringing the calculated differential cross section closer in magnitude to the experimental data of Ford [39]. In this experiment, the 7 Li(d,d) 7 Li cross section shows an enhancement at about 0.8 MeV and a resonance around 1 MeV, which were found to be compatible with deuterons traveling in Sand P -wave, respectively.…”

“…Here, we will compare the differential cross section at the deuteron c.m. scattering angle of 90 • of Ford [39] with the results of calculations performed within a model space spanned exclusively by d− 7 Li channel states, as well as with those obtained by further including either 9 Be eigenstates or p− 8 Li channel states.…”
