Electric cars: Are they solution to reduce CO2 emission?

Abstract: Reducing CO 2 emission is one of the major environmental challenges for transportation. One way to solve this problem is to replace old cars that use fossil fuels (petrol, diesel) with new electric cars. In this paper, the existing model for calculating well-to-wheels CO 2 emission during the life cycle of the car (fossil fuel car and electric car) is upgraded. The developed model is used for comparing optimal lifetime and optimal car's kilometers driven during a lifetime in the replacement process of a fossi… Show more

“…These indicators not only contain sufficient data but are also very important for the evaluation of the environmental efficiency of NEVs [160][161][162]. The WTW CO 2 emissions of NEVs depend on the local power generation configuration level and fuel quality [10,74,88]. According to the WTW emission statistics of Figure 12, the average WTW emissions of both EVs and hybrids are lower than those of GICEVs.…”

“…The driving emissions of NEVs transfer the burden of driving emissions to the power plant. Therefore, the power generation configuration and power generation emissions of a country or region greatly affect the environmental improvement efficiency of NEVs in the relevant country or region [7][8][9][10]. Moreover, NEVs will still increase environmental pollution, such as by particulate matter formation (PMF) [11,12], human toxicity (HT) [13,14], and terrestrial acidification (TA) [12,15].…”

“…Table 7 shows the research results. Therefore, the research chooses ln(T m ), the variable with the maximum correlation, and introduces it into formula (13) and then forms the 10-parameter model for the efficiency of the motor used. The following is the model's expression: (18) Use the I-SA algorithm for parameter identification of the 10-parameter motor efficiency model.…”

“…A purely electric vehicle can realize zero release, and its energy is widely and easily available. Currently, for all types of vehicles, researchers are continuously studying and developing drive systems with the motor as the power supply unit, including those in vehicles such as the electric truck [8], the refuse collection truck [9], the electric urban delivery truck [10], the electric car [11][12][13][14], electric agricultural machinery [15], etc. Especially in the research field of agricultural machinery, agricultural machinery faces complicated working conditions.…”

“…Apart of ecological pressure, financial pressure is highly important factor in commercial fleets operation, and therefore market availability of LPG and CNG fuels, vehicles and infrastructure as well now as in the near future could represents good choice, especially having in mind their price (usually less expensive than diesel/petrol due to subsidies and tax differences). Although still insufficiently dominant, the aspect of environmental protection is present today in the decision-making model for the vehicles procurement, especially for organized fleets [7].…”
