Electric vehicle side-slip control via electronic differential

Abstract: An electronic differential for high-performance electric vehicles with independent driving motors is proposed in this paper. This electronic differential endows the electric vehicle with a close-to-zero vehicle side-slip angle. When vehicle side-slip vanishes, the heading direction of the vehicle coincides with the velocity direction of the mass centre. In addition to the side-slip angle, the yaw rate is driven towards an optimal value with the proposed electronic differential on-board. The improvements in veh… Show more

“…In research related to electronic differential device control, an electronic differential device controller is designed to improve the performance of high-performance electric vehicles [16,17]. Slip angle proportional-integral-derivative feedback control is performed to improve cornering stability through side-slip angle reduction and yaw-rate optimization.…”

“…In particular, the estimation of the sideslip angle can be combined with sideslip control, particularly in high-performance and sports driving scenarios. This approach is designed to maintain the vehicle's sideslip angle within a specific range by employing various controls [22][23][24]. Given the significant relationship between the sideslip angle and the tire's operating conditions, it plays a critical role as an input for estimating the maximum friction coefficient between the tire's contact patch and the road surface [25][26][27].…”
